What is a word search solver?

A word search solver is a free tool that helps find words in word search puzzles. The tool also works with images and iPhone cameras. If you are stuck on a puzzle and want a hint, you can upload an image and find the solution in seconds. To get started, simply click the Upload Puzzle Image button.

Likewise, the solver is online and free, so there is no need to download anything or log in. Everything is done directly in the browser.

How to use the solver

To use the word search solver, first click the Upload Puzzle button and select either the camera or an image. Then select an image or take a photo of the puzzle with your camera. The puzzle needs to be clear and have good lighting. Next, crop out only the puzzle grid and word list. This removes unnecessary text, such as the title, which might confuse the image processor.

Once the puzzle is cropped, click Extract Puzzle. This will start the image processor to extract the grid and words from the word search puzzle.

After the process finishes loading, you will see the puzzle grid and word list in the two text areas on the main page. Review each line of the grid and words, and fix any mistakes the image processor may have made.

Once you are sure the puzzle data is correct, click Generate Solution. This will display the puzzle and its solution below the button, along with the puzzle words. All answers will be shown on the puzzle. To highlight a specific word, simply click the puzzle word and it will appear red on the grid.

How do I solve word search puzzles from an image?

There are two ways to solve a puzzle from an image. The first is by uploading a saved image, and the second is by taking a photo on your device.

To choose either option, first click Upload Puzzle Image. On a desktop, you can then select the puzzle image file to upload. On mobile, you will be given a dropdown option to choose either uploading a saved image or using the camera. The camera option allows you to take a photo and use it directly.

Make sure the image is as clear and well lit as possible. This will improve the accuracy of the parsing model. Also, crop out any unnecessary information such as the title or extra white space. The image should contain only the grid and the word list. This gives the model the best chance to avoid mistakes.

Can I edit the grid or word list to fix OCR errors?

Yes, and it is recommended that you do. While the OCR is usually accurate, there may occasionally be errors in the detected letters. This can cause the grid to be incorrect or prevent words from being found. After the OCR has generated the grid and word list, you should review the text and fix any errors. This is easy to do since the input is in editable text boxes. Once the errors are corrected, click the generate button to find the words.

How to format the text boxes

If a mistake is made during parsing, you can easily correct it by editing the text in the text boxes. The text follows a simple format for the solver.

In the grid box, each new line represents a row. Each letter in the line represents a column. It does not matter whether there are spaces between letters.

Likewise, in the word box, each new line represents a word. Spaces do not matter and are ignored, so they do not affect the solver.

Is the word search solver fast?

Yes. Because the solver uses a custom model, it can solve word search puzzles quickly. In total, it takes about ten seconds to process the image and extract the grid and words. This is much faster than entering the puzzle manually.
